1. From Washington and Points North:
There are two potential routes, through Virginia or through Maryland. If it's not clear which is the quickest and best route for you, go to Yahoo Maps or Mapquest and find out your estimated travel time to Fredericksburg, VA or Waldorf, MD. We are 20-25 minutes from Fredericksburg and 30-35 minutes from Waldorf, to figure out what's the best route for you. (Online road directions are often unreliable in estimating travel time to Cleydael itself. Don't know why)

From Old Town Alexandria:
Get on the Beltway, cross the Wilson Bridge and take the first Maryland exit, which is Indian Head Highway. (Rt 210). Follow this for about 11 miles until you come to Rt. 228 (Berry Road). Turn left on MD 228 and follow this about 5 miles to Waldorf. Turn right on US 301 (Crain Highway). Follow 301 South for about 25 miles, and cross the Potomac on the Harry Nice Bridge ($3 toll). After you cross the river, in about 3 miles, you'll come to the junction with Va Rt. 206. (Landmarks: McDonalds on the left, Wawa Mart on the right). Turn right on Rt. 206. Continue on 206 for 4 miles and turn left on Cleydael Blvd. (landmark: historical marker). Take the 2nd right on Peppermill Rd. On the right you will see a row of tall Leyland Cypress trees, just as the road starts to curve. You're here! Turn right down the driveway and find a place to park.

From Suburban Maryland:
Take the Beltway to exit 7A, Maryland Rt 5, South (Branch Ave to Waldorf). In 12 miles this feeds into MD 5 Business Route / US 301 (Crain Hwy). Follow rest of directions as above

Via Fredericksburg:
Take I-95 South to the Rt. 3 Fredericksburg exit, going east for a total of 19 miles. (Note: A few miles after you pass the turn for Old Town Fredericksburg, the road will end in a T-junction, with Rt 3 (Business/Downtown) going to the left and Rt 3 East (to King George) going to your right. Turn RIGHT at this exit to stay on Rt 3 east.). After you cross the King George County line, you will eventually come to a built up area. Landmarks: US Post Office on left, then a strip mall with a Food Lion. At the end of this shopping center area, you'll see a Chevron station. This is Rt 206 (Dahlgren Rd.) Take a left on Rt 206. (Landmarks: King George High School / Community College on left). Follow Rt 206 for 5 miles and take a right on Cleydael Blvd. (landmark: a big sign that says "If you lived in Cleydael, you'd be home now")  Take the 2nd right on Peppermill Rd. On the right you will see a row of tall Leyland Cypress trees, just as the road starts to curve. You're here! Turn right down the driveway and find a place to park.

2. From Richmond and Points South:

Take I-95 North to the Bowling Green Exit (Rt 207, turns into US 301). Go North for 32 miles, crossing Rt. 17, the Rappahannock River and Rt. 3. About 2.5 miles after you cross Rt. 3, start looking for VA Rt. 611 going to the left. Turn left on Rt 611. In about 2 miles, the road will dead end in Rt. 206 (Dahlgren Rd.) Turn right on Rt. 206. Go a mile and a half and start looking for Cleydael Blvd. Take a right on Cleydael Blvd. (landmark: a big sign that says "If you lived in Cleydael, you'd be home now")  Take the 2nd right on Peppermill Rd. On the right you will see a row of tall Leyland Cypress trees and some white painted horse fencing (and possibly a curious horse or two) just as the road starts to curve. You're here! Turn right down the driveway and find a place to park.

PLEASE NOTE: We have not yet gotten around to having a doorbell! The dogs usually alert us to arrivals, but if nobody answers the door, don't despair - honk your horn or phone us and say you're here!
