schedule

Schedule:

Saturday Night ( 7 pm on)

-- Informal (modern) dinner, served as and when (think pasta!) with plenty left over for late-comers.

-- We're in "modern mode" -- so non period chit-chat, modern sewing on sewing machines (bring your own machine if you want to do machine sewing!) is all fair game Saturday night. I will set up a display of original period clothing in the hall -- if you are also a collector, and would like to bring items from your collection (clothing, CdV's whatever) that would be GREAT. Also, if there's any interest, "newbies" can dress out and we can do "impression improvement" advice. Otherwise, the plan is broadly just to "hang out".

Sunday --

7:30 (ish) -- Coffee, tea, and breakfast (country ham, grits, eggs) will be served buffet style.

9 am -- potential for attending church service at St Paul's either in modern or period dress (see below)

11 am -- participants to be dressed out and in character.

morning coffee to be served

1:00 (ish) -- lunch (menu TBA) to be served in dining room (either buffet or sit down, depending on number of people)

4:00: tea and cakes served in drawing room

5:00 (ish -- or whenever people want to go home) -- event over

Church on Sunday? At this writing, I'm mulling over the prospect of going to the 9 o'clock services at St Paul's Episcopal Church (3 miles up the road), hence not shifting into firper mode until 11. St Paul's is one of the oldest parishes on the Northern Neck. The present "new" church dates to the 1750s and was constructed when Rev. William Stuart (Grandfather of Dr. Richard Stuart) was Rector, succeeding his father, Dr. David Stuart. Would anyone else be interested in this? If we went while "dressed out", it might be fun -- a group of folks did this at the church near Sky Meadows during the 5th Bttn event there two years ago and it was very well received. I'll have to check with the vicar (a history buff) to get his views, however, if there's any interest.
